Enrollment Process
- I missed enrollment, can I add MEC? Unfortunately, you can only enroll in MEC during the open enrollment period or when experiencing a significant life change. If you missed the deadline, you will need to wait for the next open enrollment period.
- Can I waive my MEC coverage? That's absolutely fine! Please click on the following link and choose "waive coverage" at the end. Unfortunately, we are unable to waive coverage for you.
- When will I get an insurance card? For those enrolled in our MEC and MEC Plus plan, your insurance card can be found on the Vitable app, under the Benefit Cards section. For those enrolled in our MEC Basic, you will not receive an insurance card. You will typically pay out of pocket for services and request a reimbursement.
- Can I add a dependent to my MEC plan a few months after open enrollment? All dependents must be added at the time of enrollment. If the enrollment deadline has passed, you cannot add a dependent until the next enrollment cycle or when experiencing a significant life-changing event.
- Can I add my parent to my plan? Parents cannot be added to your MEC coverage. Dependents for MEC include your spouse, domestic partner, or children. However, you will be able to add anyone in your household to the VPC plan though!
Coverage Overview
- Does the plan cover hospital stays? MEC Basic and MEC only covers preventative services. MEC Plus will cover some office visits for primary care, specialist, and urgent care. Vitable MEC plans will not cover hospitalization.
- Does the plan cover STI testing? Yes! Certain, STI tests are covered through MEC (HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis)
- Am I able to get a mammogram? Yes! Women 40+ are covered for a screening mammogram. Diagnostic mammograms are not covered.
-
What doctors can I go to? The providers available to you will depend on the network associated with your MEC plan.
- MEC Basic: This plan uses an open network. You will pay for services upfront and then submit a request for reimbursement.
- MEC or MEC Plus: These plans include access to a provider network. Please review the following article for details on how to access in-network care: How can I find a provider covered by my MEC, MEC Plus, or MVP?

MEC + Other Coverage
